Veterinarian Services
We offer much more than just spays, neuters and vaccines! We can perform most surgeries, have affordable dental care and can do diagnostic work including bloodwork and x-rays.
Whatever we can’t do, we are happy to refer you or help you coordinate care.
Vaccines
We recommend regular vaccinations because the benefits outweigh the risks. Vaccines, like any medication, are not without risk but we continue to vaccinate and recommend vaccinating because those risks are much smaller risk than the risk of the disease itself.
Because Rabies is life-threatening to pets and humans, the law requires that veterinarians administer rabies vaccines regularly and with an exam. After the first rabies vaccine, your pet will need to come in the next year for a booster and then every three years.
Just like in human medicine, vaccines for dogs and cats protect them from contracting serious and life-threatening diseases. Similar to vaccines in humans, vaccines for your pets need to be given multiple times to ensure your pet is fully protected. You will need to bring your pet in for an initial treatment and then schedule a follow-up appointment for the necessary boosters. To be fully protected, puppies and kittens need to start their vaccines at 8 weeks old and have a booster visit around 12 weeks and another around 16 weeks. You can schedule all your necessary visits with one phone call.
FOR DOGS:
Rabies vaccine, Bordetella and DHLPP. The Bordetella vaccine protects against kennel cough. DHLPP protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. A vaccine called DHPP is available for puppies and protects against 4 of those diseases.
FOR CATS:
Rabies vaccine, and FVR-L-CP vaccines. FVR-L-CP protects against 4 serious diseases: Feline Rhontracheitis Virus/Herpesvirus 1, Feline Leukemia, Feline Calcivirus and Feline Panleukopenia (feline parvovirus). The FVRCP vaccine is available for kittens and protects against 3 of those diseases.
Diagnostics
We regularly do x-rays, bloodwork, fecal parasite tests, and urinalysis to help diagnose disease and improve the health of our patients. We ask that you bring a fecal sample with you every time you come for an exam. This simple, and quick analysis helps treat serious parasites and diseases before your pet shows signs and prevents expensive and health-threatening consequences later. It is a part of an approved standard of care for canine and feline family members. Similarly, regular bloodwork (required for any anesthesia event and recommended yearly after 8 years old) helps give a baseline of your pet’s internal systems and helps diagnose metabolic diseases before they become serious among other things.
Exams
Whether you have a puppy or kitten that needs it’s first vaccines or an elderly pet that needs a wellness check, we are ready to help you. All exams include a medical history and a check of all major body systems from nose to tail: eyes, ears, mouth, lymph nodes, heart, lungs, abdomen, skin, and anal glands. Remember to bring a fecal sample with you! (What do I put that in? A sandwich-size plastic baggie is perfect. Please bring a fresh, quarter-sized piece or refrigerate it for up to a day)
Dental Cleanings
“Only brush the ones you want to keep” my dentist used to say. And it is true for pets, too! Their mouths need the same care ours do. Imagine the bacteria, the cavities and the pain in your mouth, if you went a whole year without brushing. We recommend at least a yearly cleaning. Your veterinarian can tell you how your companion’s teeth are doing when you come in for a yearly exam.
Surgeries
Our surgeons do spays, neuters, mass removals, hernia repairs, exploratory surgery, amputation, dewclaw removal, and a number of other soft tissue surgeries. Give us a call and we will put together an estimate for you. For your pet’s safety, bloodwork is required. Bloodwork tests performed a few days before surgery have a cost savings while bloodwork run on the day of surgery is more expensive. So, plan accordingly.
